Now you have your video drivers set up we can install gaming, video
recording, any software you want in my Software Time! segment!
==================================================
The first piece of software we will install is Steam. If you do not know what Steam is... You obviously aren’t a true gamer ;)
Steam is the PSN and Xbox Live for computers, You can make a profile, buy and play games via direct download, talk to friends, make groups and much more! It is made by Valve, the creators of the Half Life franchise, Counter Strike, Team Fortress and DOTA.
It is a must have! Those who have used it, follow the commands to install Steam.
================================================
NOTE 1: Are some of your games missing from your library? Steam for Linux will only display Linux compatible games, go to Windows and they will all be there still. If your favourite game isn't in the list on Linux do not worry, chances are if its a Valve game it will be, and if its not well... Developers are following Valve to Linux.
================================================
Ok so open your browser and go to:
www.store.steampowered.com
There will be a big, green, Install Steam button that will download a .Deb package. YOU WILL NEED TO CLICK SAVE AS. Do not use open with.
When it is downloaded, click the .deb and It will open Ubuntu Software Center and take you to the Steam page. Why not just search for it in Ubuntu Software Center? Because you will not find it :)
It will then say something along the lines of: "Start Steam to finish" or somthing like that.
==================
NOTE 2: 64bit Ubuntu will open a terminal after this asking to download 32bit libraries, Just type "Y" for yes and press enter.
==================
Then you will see the usual Steam rectangle updating like it does in Windows! Do what you normally in Windows from now on (login, Steam guard etc)
And you are done! Steam installed!
